New Year's fireworks fun

Posted by Renee Hopkins Callahan

150misstemple.jpgI've been offline for awhile, visiting family in Tupelo, Mississippi. I'll be playing catch-up over the next few days. Meanwhile, I'll share with you a discovery I made while on my trip: Paul Thorn, a singer-songwriter who's originally from Tupelo. While visiting my favorite place in Mississippi, Square Books in Oxford, on a whim I picked up a compilation CD on which I found Thorn's "Mission Temple Fireworks Stand." This hilarious song is in fact about marketing, in a way: it's about a Pentecostal preacher who gave up his church to sell bottle rockets and preach salvation at a roadside tent. Click on the image and you can see a QuickTime clip of the song from Thorn's live DVD.
